About Australian BDS Campaign for Palestine

In 2005, more than 170 Palestinian civil society organisations, including political parties, unions, associations, coalitions and other civil organisations representing the Palestinian people in the 1967 and 1948 territories and the diaspora issued a call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel.

Inspired by the struggle of South Africans against apartheid, the BDS campaign is conducted in the frame work of international solidarity and resistance to injustice, occupation and oppression. The campaign calls upon international civil society organisations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era, while also calling for pressure to be place on governments to impose embargoes and sanctions against Israel until it meets its obligations to recognised the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self determine and Israel fully complies with international law by:

1. End its occupation and colonisation of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall;

2. Recognising the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and

3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.

The site is dedicated to providing information about the developing BDS campaign in Australia, while supporting BDS actions and initiatives around the country in order to strengthen the campaign both in Australia and internationally.

Calls for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel

Until it Complies with International Law and Universal Principles of Human Rights

One year after the historic Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which found Israel’s Wall built on occupied Palestinian territory to be illegal; Israel continues its construction of the colonial Wall with total disregard to the Court’s decision. Thirty eight years into Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian West Bank (including East Jerusalem), Gaza Strip and the Syrian Golan Heights, Israel continues to expand Jewish colonies. It has unilaterally annexed occupied East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights and is now de facto annexing large parts of the West Bank by means of the Wall. Israel is also preparing – in the shadow of its lanned redeployment from the Gaza Strip – to build and expand colonies in the West Bank. Fifty seven years fter the state of Israel was built mainly on land ethnically cleansed of its Palestinian owners, a majority of Palestinians are refugees, most of whom are stateless. Moreover, Israel’s entrenched system of racial discrimination against its own Arab-Palestinian citizens remains intact.

In light of Israel’s persistent violations of international law; and

Given that, since 1948, hundreds of UN resolutions have condemned Israel’s colonial and discriminatory policies as illegal and called for immediate, adequate and effective remedies; and

Given that all forms of international intervention and peace-making have until now failed to convince or force Israel to comply with humanitarian law, to respect fundamental human rights and to end its occupation and oppression of the people of Palestine; and

In view of the fact that people of conscience in the international community have historically shouldered the moral responsibility to fight injustice, as exemplified in the struggle to abolish apartheid in South Africa through diverse forms of boycott, divestment and sanctions; and

Inspired by the struggle of South Africans against apartheid and in the spirit of international solidarity, moral consistency and resistance to injustice and oppression;

We, representatives of Palestinian civil society, call upon international civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era. We appeal to you to pressure your respective states to impose embargoes and sanctions against Israel. We also invite conscientious Israelis to support this Call, for the sake of justice and genuine peace.

These non-violent punitive measures should be maintained until Israel meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with the precepts of international law by:

1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall;

2. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and

3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.

المدنــي الفلسطينــي تنــادي بمقاطعــة إسرائيــل وسحــب الاستثمــارات منــها
وفــرض العقوبــات عليــها حتــى تنصــاع للقانــون الدولــي والمبـــادئ
الدوليـــة لحقــوق الإنســــان

لقد مر عام على صدور القرار التاريخي لمحكمة
العدل الدولية، والذي اعتبر أن قيام اسرائيل ببناء الجدار على اﻷرض الفلسطينية
المحتلة عمل غير قانوني. ومع هذا، فإن إسرائيل مستمرة في بناء جدارها الكولونيالي
متجاهلة قرار المحكمة المذكور. ثمانية وثلاثون عاماً من الاحتلال اﻹسرائيلي للضفة
الغربية (ومن ضمنها القدس الشرقية)، قطاع غزة وهضبة الجولان، وإسرائيل مستمرة في
توسيع مستعمراتها. كما أنها قامت بضم القدس الشرقية ومرتفعات الجولان السورية من
طرف واحد، وضمت عملياً – بسياسة الأمر الواقع – أجزاء واسعة من أراضي الضفة
الغربية بواسطة الجدار. كما تخطط إسرائيل، تحت غطاء خطة إعادة الانتشار من غزة،
لبناء وتوسيع مستعمراتها في الضفة الغربية. بعد مرور سبعة وخمسين عاماً على إنشاء
دولة إسرائيل، والتي اقيمت بمعظمها على أراضٍ فلسطينية تم “تطهيرها”
عرقياً من أصحابها الفلسطينيين، فإن غالبية الفلسطينيين هم لاجئون، وأغلبهم
“بدون جنسية”. إضافة إلى ذلك، فإن نظام التمييز العنصري الإسرائيلي ضد
المواطنين العرب الفلسطينيين حاملي الجنسية الإسرائيلية لا يزال مستشرياً.

انطلاقاً من انتهاكات إسرائيل المستمرة
للقانون الدولي،

وعلى ضوء تجاهل إسرائيل منذ عام 1948 لمئات
من قرارات اﻷمم المتحدة التي أدانت سياساتها الاستعمارية والعنصرية، واعتبرتها غير
قانونية، ونادت بحلول فعالة ومناسبة،

وبما أن كل أشكال الوساطة الدولية وصنع
السلام لم تتمكن لغاية الآن من إقناع أو إجبار إسرائيل على الإذعان للقانون
الإنساني واحترام الحقوق الأساسية للإنسان وإنهاء احتلالها واضطهادها للشعب
الفلسطيني،

وعلى ضوء حقيقة أن أصحاب الضمير في المجتمع
الدولي قد تحملوا تاريخياً المسؤولية الأخلاقية في مناهضة الظلم، كما حدث في
النضال من أجل إلغاء نظام الفصل العنصري في جنوب أفريقيا، بأشكال متعددة من
المقاطعة وسحب الاستثمارات وفرض العقوبات،

واستلهاماً من نضال شعب جنوب أفريقيا ضد نظام
الأبارثهايد، وبروح التضامن العالمي والانسجام الأخلاقي والتزاماً بمحاربة الظلم
والاضطهاد،

نناشد، نحن ممثلو المجتمع المدني الفلسطيني،
منظمات المجتمع المدني في العالم وكل أصحاب الضمائر الحية بفرض مقاطعة واسعة
لإسرائيل، وتطبيق سحب الاستثمارات منها، في خطوات مشابهة لتلك المطبقة ضد جنوب
أفريقيا خلال حقبة الأبارثهايد. كما ندعوكم لممارسة الضغوط على حكوماتكم من أجل
فرض المقاطعة والعقوبات على إسرائيل. ونتوجه إلى أصحاب الضمائر في المجتمع
اﻹسرائيلي لدعم هذا النداء من أجل تحقيق العدالة والسلام الحقيقي.

يجب أن تستمر هذه الإجراءات العقابية السلمية
حتى تفي إسرائيل بالتزاماتها في الاعتراف بحق الشعب الفلسطيني – غير القابل للتصرف
- في تقرير المصير، وحتى تنصاع بالكامل للقانون الدولي عن طريق:

• إنهاء احتلالها واستعمارها لكل
الأراضي العربية وتفكيك الجدار

• الإعتراف بالحق الأساسي بالمساواة
الكاملة لمواطنيها العرب الفلسطينيين

• إحترام وحماية ودعم حقوق اللاجئين
الفلسطينيين في العودة إلى ديارهم واستعادة ممتلكاتهم كما هو منصوص عليه في قرار
اﻷمم المتحدة رقم 194 .
